The Negative Effects of the Anti-Military Left on Our Veterans and Their Families:
A response to a Blog Radio interview with Adam Kokesh

We often hear from the leftist anti-military groups that their demonstrations and activities are intended to help and support our troops. However, our veterans and their families often report that these activities have a very negative effect on them. An example of these negative effects was apparent on the April 22, 2010 Chandler’s Watch Radio Blog show in which Adam Kokesh was interviewed (http://vietnam-veterans.us/videos/ChandlersWatchKokesh232.mp3).

Mr. Kokesh is a member of the Iraq Veterans Against War (IVAW), and he has an extensive history of engaging in anti-military activities in alliance with groups such as Code Pink and MoveOn.org. Currently, he is running for US Congress – New Mexico 3rd CD as a self-declared Conservative Republican. He was recruited and endorsed by the Ron Paul Liberty Candidate group.

Mr. Kokesh was invited as a guest to discuss his anti-military activities and the impact of those activities on his current campaign for US Congress. A Marine who is opposed to the Kokesh candidacy hosts Chandler’s Watch, and Mr. Kokesh understood that he would be facing some tough questioning from both the host and the callers.

Initially, Mr. Kokesh attempted to defend his anti-war activities by minimizing the contact that he had had with other radical groups and by saying that, at that time, he believed that his actions were in the best interest of the troops, given the “illegal” nature of the war. Further, he went on to note that he has an undergraduate degree in Psychology and that his support of our troops is evidenced by his involvement with attempting to assist veterans with PTSD in obtaining services once they had returned from Iraq.

During the course of the show both a Gold Star and a Blue Star Mother phoned in. What was most striking about their phone calls was the degree of anguish, anger, frustration, and at times rage that was evident in their voices and in their comments. They attempted to let Mr. Kokesh know just how painful his actions had been to them and to their families, and how the attempt by the radical left to impugn the honor and the integrity of their sons had affected them. I know the Blue Star Mother personally; she is a tireless supporter of our troops, even though her son has long since finished his active duty. She is self-controlled and thoughtful, and it was surprising to me to hear the depth of her anger, anguish, and yes, rage. Similarly, the Gold Star mother’s voice was filled with the anguish and pain of having lost her child, and the rage she feels towards the anti-military leftist’s for their attempts to dishonor him. While I am not a Star Mother, I AM a mother, and what I was hearing from these women could well be described as “motherly rage”.

Mr. Kokesh also heard from a Vietnam and a Desert Storm veteran, both of whom had felt the wrath of the “radical left” upon their return from active duty. Both of these men were well modulated in their comments, but the scars of a country’s betrayal were apparent in their voices.

By the end of the interview Mr. Kokesh, to his credit, did apologize for his IVAW actions, and for the pain and suffering that those actions had caused. Further, in his own defense, he reflected that perhaps his anti-military activities were in part a result of his immaturity and that he felt he had grown since then. He also noted that he himself had suffered from PTSD following his return from Iraq. He again highlighted his interest in PTSD issues in returning veterans as evidence of his commitment to the well-being of our soldiers.

By way of commentary, I would like to offer the following reflections to Mr. Kokesh as regards PTSD in our returning soldiers and as regards the importance of a mature character when running for national office.

Firstly, most returning soldiers experience an Adjustment Reaction Disorder as they make the transition from military to civilian life. This can be an uncomfortable and anxiety provoking process, but it is actually expected and normal. In contrast, PTSD is a prolonged and disabling disorder that is differentiated from adjustment reactions in both its duration and severity. One of the most important factors in guarding against an adjustment disorder developing into chronic PTSD is the quality of the environment in which the person is living. There is the need for a supportive, understanding, accepting environment. This is hardly the case when Code Pink stages “solidarity” marches through the streets of Palestine and the IVAW burns an American flag at a “peace rally” in Washington DC. Clearly a rejecting, judgmental and oftentimes aggressively accusatory anti-military movement will do precious little to mitigate against the onset of a full-blown PTSD.

Secondly, I would like to comment on Mr. Kokesh’s statement that his IVAW activities were a result of general immaturity on his part. I would agree with that assessment. However, I would also note that little time has elapsed since Mr. Kokesh was a very ardent and active member in the IVAW, and there is nothing, other than his word, to suggest that he has matured away from his radical leftist anti-military beliefs. This issue of “immaturity” is especially troublesome, since Mr. Kokesh is aspiring to become a member of the US Congress, a position that by its nature requires a mature and thoughtful approach to very complex and stressful issues.

In closing, I would hope that Mr. Kokesh’s experience on Chandler’s Watch helped him to understand the pain and the anguish that groups such as the IVAW have inflicted on our veterans and their families. I would venture a guess that the views of the callers to the show are not unique within the veteran community. While I do not have any specific polling data, I would bet that most veterans are vehemently opposed to the IVAW and their radical anti-military membership.

I would suggest to Mr. Kokesh that, if he is truly interested in the issues surrounding PTSD in our soldiers, he continue his education in Psychology and devote more of his time to understanding both the disorder and the negative effects of a radical leftist movement on this condition.

Perhaps within the course of more extended personal self-reflection, and pursuits of higher education, and practical real-life experience Mr. Kokesh might gain the requisite knowledge, empathy, and maturity that are necessary in order to be an effective and honest Congressman.

In “Dear Sarah Palin, It’s Time to Re-Think That Rand Paul (Anti-Israel, Pro-Kokesh) Endorsement!“, NRB presented the contradiction between Rand Paul’s statement to AIPAC concerning continued support for Israel, and the isolationist position he reiterates in the presence of fellow libertarians.

The post featured a video of Rand Paul and his friend and fellow U.S. congressional candidate, Adam Kokesh, of Iraq Veterans Against the War. Seated in Rand Paul’s office, the two spoke of their “movement” and intention to take back the House and Senate.

Both Rand and Ron Paul’s endorsements are posted on the Kokesh For Congress site, and Rand Paul 2010 invites supporters to a fundraiser, promising that Adam Kokesh will be in attendance.

In 22 days, with the help of Sarah Palin, Concerned Women for America, Gun Owners of Kentucky, Right to Life of Northern Kentucky, and a host of conservative voters, Rand Paul, a man whose “movement” insists that Americans stop paying their income taxes, might profit from Tea Party Tar and Feather Fever and bring the spirit of Slave Uprising to the Hill. One staff member of an influential conservative organization told me:

“We keep after the folks, even when we get them elected. If Rand Paul doesn’t do what he promised for Israel, we will be on the phone.”

Note to Conservative PAC’s: Vet candidates BEFORE, not AFTER elections. Let me help you. At the Gulf Coast 9/11 Truth Symposium, Kokesh made the following statements:

“If you can just think for a second outside the cage, and ask yourself how that strategy can be applied to the broader problem of fascism. How can we withdraw our consent and support for the government that is oppressing us today? It’s really not that hard.”

“I’ve noticed something in the Ron Paul Movement that doesn’t get talked about often enough. I haven’t met a lot of IRS Agents that are big fans of Ron Paul. I haven’t met people who go out of their way to pay any extra taxes in the Ron Paul Movement…if you work for the government and you cannot justify theft from the American people to pay your salary, you have a moral obligation to quit your job, especially if you work for the IRS.”

“If you pay the Federal Income Tax, and you realize that you are funding torture, unjust warfare, domestic surveillance, unconstitutional government, you have a moral obligation to stop paying Federal Income Taxes. So, let me tell you about a project we have been working on called Slave Uprising. This is an affirmation of my commitment to not pay any Income Tax. I’ve not paid any in a year and a half. It doesn’t matter if you pour over the photographs of what happened at the World Trade Center if you are not asking, ‘What are the principles that I believe in?’ Are we doing this in our own lives?”

Here is Rand Paul’s friend Adam at the Revolution for Congress in Washington D.C. in 2007:

“The people of the world tremble under the thumb of imperial capitalism. As Iraq Veterans Against the War, we are resisting an occupation we once risked our lives for. We are working to end the War by strategically withdrawing our material support and inspiring others to do the same. Through “Truth in Recruiting,” we are inspiring young Americans to find a better way to support their country than dying for empire.”

“By actively supporting those who resist, we inspire further resistance, insuring soldiers that they have the right and the duty to disobey illegal orders. I will not tell you that everything is going to be OK, while we are bled dry by tyrants.”

“I have great hope for America, but it comes not from any election, no, my hope comes from you. Our tragic love affair with the State has led us to put far too much trust in a government that we thought could improve our lives, but instead, has enslaved us…we must embrace defiance, rebellion and resistance. Every day, more and more Americans are avoiding unenforceable taxes, leaving government jobs out of disgust, and sending their kids to college instead of combat.”

“Our efforts as a movement must become fully united and deliberate to fully withdraw our support and compliance. Be it with your lives, labor or tax dollars, stop investing in your own oppression. Guard your communities from the Police State. Do not waste a single vote or a single dollar on the two party system. Embrace a world that is not defined by the politics of fear, our obedience producing schools, or the false prophets of the corporate media…we must stir the sleeping masses.”

Adam’s pathetic harangues would be the stuff of which Monty Python skits are made were they not virally infecting the conservative nucleus of America, thanks to the culpable benediction of its leaders. Kokesh gesticulates through platitudinous orations, flanked by crew-cut disciples who regularly punctuate the leader’s rants with clenched-fist, stiff-arm salutes. This confused half Nazi-Right, half Panther-Left gesture embodies Kokesh’s personal, tortured persona; part aspiring dictator, part time-traveler from the Marxist Days of Rage.

Upon hearing Kokesh’s subversive barking, logic dictates one conclusion to Gov. Sarah Palin, CWFA, and Tea Party patriots all, they must no longer encourage voters to support a man who has expressed solidarity with a criminal (not paying taxes is a crime,) and a liar (Kokesh claims on his website that he is a life-long Republican while telling people not to support the two-party system.)

Rand Paul, Adam Kokesh, and anyone who endorses or votes for them, legitimize a view of America and course of action that are indistinguishable from those of the anti-War radical Left.

Those who persist in their endorsement of Rand Paul are responsible for the political consequences of his revolutionary philosophy, a philosophy that, happily for us, was not as deceptively disguised by Rand’s treasonous partner, as by Rand himself.

Thomas Paine wrote the “Crisis” after the defeats of the Continental Army at the hands of the British and Hessian troops in New York and Fort Lee. The Continental troops were in retreat across the Delaware river into Pennsylvania. In this retreat massive amounts of supplies were left behind, and many troops deserted and ran off.
George Washington and the remnants of his Army planned to attack the Hessian garrison at Trenton New Jersey in the early morning hours of December 26th 1776. The troops were clothed is rags, with burlap tied around their feet instead of shoes and boots. They braved crossing the half frozen Delaware river in the middle of a winter Northeaster storm. The troops were sick and worn from the forced retreat across New Jersey and Pennsylvania. However, these brave soldiers followed George Washington to battle the crack Hessian Mercenary troops, who had slaughtered Continental prisoners in New York. It was common knowledge that this was a battle, a desperate battle, to save the American Revolution. Washington and his troops knew the grave consequences. The tremendous bravery exhibited by these nameless thousands gave all of us the gift of Freedom and Liberty. They became known as the Winter Soldiers, the men we owe everything too!
In recognition of the the sacrifice of these soldiers, the following words were written by Thomas Paine in 1776; “These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph”. December 23, 1776 Thomas Paine “Crisis”
There are two groups in our recent history who have stolen and corrupted Thomas Paine’s tribute to these brave revolutionary soldiers names, and in so doing have attempted to disgrace them and dishonor them. The first group was the Vietnam Veterans Against War (VVAW), a Marxist front group lead by John F. Kerry. The second was Iraq Veterans Against War (IVAW), lead by Adam Kokesh. They both held “Winter Soldier” conferences in which they attempted to call American troops “War Criminals”. I find the naming of such events offensive and a slap in the face to the four divisions of Revolutionary War heroes who were willing to lay down their lives for our Freedom and Liberty.
Every veteran who has followed those four divisions of the first true Winter Soldiers in defense of our Freedom and Liberties are the true American heroes. John Kerry, Adam Kokesh, and the treasonous scum who sat with them and conspired against the true American Winter Soldiers are cowards, who besmirch true American heroes. I find the VVAW and IVAW and their membership to be the most reprehensible citizens in America. They were part of this Band of Brothers, but chose instead to betray them and their country. I find no honor in trying to talk with people who wish to replace my Republic and my form of government with Marxism or Islam and commit me into slavery. Our core values are polar opposite philosophies. I can not compromise my values, there is no middle ground. There can be only one outcome and that is the total defeat of one side or the other.

In your bizarre logic you thought all the Patriotic Conservatives would be so caught up in Countering Barack Hussein Obama’s coup d’état” of American, nobody would notice Ron Paul’s attempted take over of the conservative movement. Jonn covered this earlier, but it’s been pissing me off all day. First, I want to go through his missive. He is bold and italicized, mine will be regular.

On behalf of Liberty Candidates, as I am one, I find your actions abhorrent and unlawful. Those organizations using a 503c Charitable Organization charter will be subject to diciplinary measures by the authorities in your respective states.

Your spelling is atrocious, your logic is faulty, and you are a ri-tard. What orgnizations are you referring to that do the remainder that have a 503c, and do you understand what that means?

This serves as notification that Liberty Candidates, all 126+ are in the process of filing legal action against your all of the organizations in the coming week. For those of you that are private citizens that participated in this outrageous action, I should hope that you are financially well off.

I speak on behalf of the worlds interest when I say that I look forward to this treatise of masterpiece of jurisprudence with the same trepidation as I did the time my buddy told me he had a video of a midget playing baseball with a Louisville slugger hanging out of his ass. I am not well off, but take great interest in being part of your suit, see later for details.

Your plan to threaten the citizens of the United States into not donating to a political candidate of their choice and in their state violates many laws that we do not have enough paper to possibly list here. Groups holding a 503c charter are prohibited from endorsing ANY particular candidate. By slandering Adam Kokesh, Candidate for New Mexico’s race, you have indirectly endorsed Lujan. All candidates have suffered large financial losses to their campaign funding, so enjoy your moment of gloating. It will be short lived.

Rest assured, we have employed several laywers that will work on a pro bono basis to recoup these losses from your hate groups. I suggest you focus your activities on a local level, and be more productive in helping those in your communities. You have run up against a large group of determined individuals that refuse to be stopped in their quest to return America back to the Constitution. We will use this great document to the fullest extent in making sure that the 2010 elections are not influnced by hate groups such as yours.

I have spent the better part of 3 weeks going through defamation lawsuits filed by both private and public figures. For the love of the Holy Mother of Spongebob, pray point me to ONE, JUST ONE, that went your way when dealing with supposed defamation against a public figure. Your lawsuit is bullshit.

And what is the lawsuit?

RE: Slander, Libelous Statements, Use of threats, coersion to prevent income, tampering with election funding, use of misleading video clips and doctored footage.

Slander: defense of truth, various First Amendment protections, marketplace of ideas, etc. Look them up.
Libelous Statements: see above.
Use of Threats: where? You should know that threats can be difficult, and are not generally a cause of action for a person, rather this would probably fall under criminal.
coersion to prevent income: Now you are just making shit up.
tampering with election funding: Not a cause of action, making shit up again.
use of misleading video clips and doctored footage: Misleading video clips not illegal. Doctored footage where? Um, wouldn’t that pretty much screw all media outlets? Also, not a cause of action.

Ah, so you admit your case is horseshit, but you are pushing forward with it to “prove a point.” You know what they call a lawyer who takes a case to court that has no merit based exclusively on the premise of “making a point”? In the legal world we call that: really fucked. Like, take it up with the bar fucked. You should consider taking that part down.

But look, I also want to be a part of this suit. Here’s a little number I have been quietly sitting on for quite a while. But, since you open the door, let me throw it out there.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY FORMER AND CURRENT IVAW MEMBER(S) THAT THE CALLED KOKESH “COKEHEAD” ON ACCOUNT OF THE PARTIES HE THREW AT THE HOUSE.

Mind you, your lawyer will likely be bright enough to tell you that what I did there was pass along information given to me, and that in order to prevail you would have to show that no one told me that, which they have. Bush has committed more crimes against humanity than leftist darlings like Saddam Hussain, Yasser Arafat, and Osama Bin Laden, and still defend Communism, the cause of over 100 million deaths to this day. See also, idiotarian Hundreds of useful idiots gathered at their college campus to burn American flags, pass out Communist pamphlets that apologize for Stalin and Mao, and to pledge support to their hero, Saddam Hussain. Useful idiots need to be shown the facts, mainly that the United States and Israel are the greatest defenders of freedom and justice in the world. Until then, rational people can have fun laughing at their ignorance. WHEREAS, unmarked aircraft are daily painting American skies with bio-hostile substances; and

The thing I find so ironic, you set out to prove linkage between Ron Paul, IVAW and Oath Keepers. You calculate this will take a lot of hard work and digging. Low and behold here is the Daily Paul making my case for me. As we all know Carlos Arredondo, had little to do with his son while he was alive. Soon after his death Carlos and IVAW used a Marine Corp hero as an IVAW prop. They attached his photo to a coffin pulling it down Constitution Avenue in an Anti-American, Anti Troop Rally on September 15th 2007. A retired Marine snatched the photo from the coffin, who was subsequently attacked by Carlos Arredondo from behind. Like IVAW the Daily Paul uses twisted propaganda to try to deceive Americans to their twisted Anti-American logic.
